This is a 3 owner Automobile with an excellent documented history , The San Diego Collection bought and sold this car 3 years ago when it had just over 24,000 Miles on it. The vehicle was sold to local Doctor in La Jolla San Diego, California. The vehicle was used sparingly for several years and added almost 2,000 miles. Under his ownership the car was meticulously cared for and we had the pleasure of personally detailing the vehicle e on several occasions for the numerous shows he would attend. As part of his personality the car had to be perfect and everything had to work. He under went a radio and Clock restoration to insure they would be no problems with any of the small things, all lights turn signals and gauges are like new. The vehicle has been re-painted and finished in the original color combination. The interior is all original and in stunning condition . The history on the car has been transferred down to us by its original and second owner.
The car was originally bought by Mrs. Clyde Mcdonald from Lively Auto in Brainerd Minnesota. She ordered the car form dealer stock and took delivery on July 9, 1956. She paid cash for the car and drove the car until 1971 when she sold it.
Mr. Backman owned a Mobil service station and had done all the work and repair on the car since new. The car was sparingly used for a number of years until Mr. Backmans death the car then sat in the garage till 2001 when a local magazine in Pequot Lakes, MN wrote an article on local Lakers Car Club, the gentleman who we bough the car from was the clubs secretary and editor. He headed up the club and was the main contact listed in the article so Mr. Backman contact him to help her sell the car.
The following day the club editor went to inspect and eventually purchase the 1956 Oldsmobile. The car was in almost exactly the same shape as it is seen here. Mrs. Backman had lots of documents for the car and each have followed the car since. The was bought that day and picked up in with the week after sitting for several years all the car needed was fresh fluids and a new battery, everything checked out and the car drove home without issue. At that time the brakes were serviced and was the transmission. Shortly before we purchased the car it had undergone one-repaint to the Salmon color only and some mechanicals including water pump, fuel pump, oil sending unit and a brand new set of radial tires.
Several years ago the clubs editor had been enjoying the car at numerous cruise nights as well as many driving events with the club. Unfortunately his father had passed away and due to increasing medical bills the car had to be sold. This is where The San Diego Collection came in, with such good documents and great history we bought the car immediately. It then sold to a local Doctor in San Diego who then began dialing it there were only just a few items that needed attention much like many older classic cars it was Turn signals that work intermediately, the clock and radio of course. He fixed all these items professionally and correctly fixed. The car runs and drives like new and is one of the most comfortable family cruisers ever built. The car is in excellent condition within the past year the white has been re-painted and its Island Coral color was recently sprayed within a few years. The interior gauges, button , knobs, seats upholstery and headliner are all original. Each knob still clearly reads what its function is and all are like brand new.
The vehicle is powered by the 324 V8 with 230hp and 340 lbs of torque coupled to a highly desirable Jet-a-way Automatic Transmission. Options include power brakes, deluxe radio, and heater. Everything on the vehicle is in working order. The previous owner drives the car often and states it never looses an ounce of oil. It can cruise at speeds of 60-70 mph and has completed several parades with no overheating issues.
Simply stated this vehicle is fabulous boulevard cruiser and a exciting car for the entire family to enjoy. 4 door classics are becoming very popular and highly desirable. No longer is a Sunday car show considered Dads day these 4 door classics are ideal for sons, daughters and grandkids alike, enjoying the car hobby with loved ones if one of the most happiest moments you will ever have.
